From 1993 to the recent fire in 2011 the village shop and post office was a focal point in the show. It has since become a cafe since the January 2011 fire. But, did you know that from 1973 to 1976 Beckindale Village Shop was a focal point in Emmerdale Farm? Henry Wilks bought the shop off George Verney in 1973 meaning he had shares in Emmerdale Farm and the shop before going into partnership with Amos Brearly at the Woolpack. In 1974 Alison Gibbons left the shop in the hands of Norah Norris before passing it on to Mrs Dawkins. Here are a few shots of the shop outside and inside from 1974, 1975 and 1976.
Mr Wilks inside the shop in 1974. Looks like he is gazing into space lol.
Annie Sugden, Rosemary Kendall and Mrs Dawkins inside the shop in 1975.
The exterior of the shop in 1975.
Mrs Dawkins in the shop in February 1976. And the shop exterior in 1976.
